Subscriptions 2025

Thank you to everyone who has paid their subscription to the Thoroton Society for 2025. At the time of writing, over 80% of our membership have done so by Standing Order, BAGS or cheque. However, more than 30 of you that have paid, have paid at the old rate, despite the publicity in our Autumn and Winter Newsletters detailing the changes effective from 1st January 2025. Where we have suitable details, we have sent out messages by email, identifying the shortfalls, but there are still a number of our members that we cannot contact by this means. Please would you check your banking records to make sure that you have made the correct payment as indicated in the tables published.

Unfortunately, there are also nearly 40 members that have not yet made any payment at all. Subscriptions were due on 1st January 2025 and follow-up messages will be sent out during February.

If you still have any concerns or difficulties over your subscription, please contact me at treasurer@thorotonsociety.org.uk or 0743 611 4158 and I will do my best to resolve it.

With best wishes and thanks for your continued support,

David Hoskins
Vice-Chair & Treasurer

Excursions Plans for 2025

Dates for you Diary are as follows. Please also watch out for other opportunities which may come up between Newsletters and will be published in the eBulletin.

Proposed additional excursions with dates still to be confirmed:

Paul Baker will be making a recognisance visit to Cambridge in April and I will look into travel arrangements, so full details will be available in May.

Please can you make Paul and me aware of your interest in receiving details by email after his visit to Cambridge and Ely. Email: pbthoroton22@gmail.com.

Travelling by Train: It is too early to give prices as timetables always change in the middle of May and this year some prices will too. Train companies have discounted fares if booked in advance. The National Rail Enquiries website is best but asking a person at the booking office, if there is one open, can be better because they are human, therefore more flexible. (Paul Baker recommends Nottingham station’s booking office having had some good deals over the last year). The railcard system, of which there are 13 varieties, give reductions of about a third off the price of tickets. The price of railcards is due to increase on 1st March for the first time.
